Artist's Comments

"The dragon leaves this world of war. Away from the darkness, away from the blood.. away from.. everything.
There's a new beginning. Still far away, but the light from it will show the way.
Just one leap.. both wings spread out.. and you're off.."

~~~~~~~~
Thought it would fit with a small story to the picture :)
You might recognize the dragon from [link] where I also said that it wasn't finished yet, and that I would create a background later. Well, here I am; with a background and all! Woho!
So here it is; my first digital artwork. I believe it's best to have a full view :)
This time; comments/critiques are TRULY appreciated!
~~~~~~~~

EDIT:
I took Stoutkoekje's advice both about the white pixels at the paws, and I truly did put more effort into the background now :) I even added a little leather-look on the inside of the dragon's wings!
The "original" picture is moved to my scraps ([link])

You did a great job for your first time. The details of the scales are very nice.

At his paws I couldn't help but noticed they didn't blend in very well with the rest of the picture (white pixels), so maybe next time you should practice with cutting out images.
Also next time I would try to put more effort into the background, even though this isn't always of much importance.

There are some awesome tutorials on DeviantART about coloring images, you should really check them out! :)

My tips are to help, not because I dislike your work! Keep that in mind!!
It's very nice!

First of all; thank you very much for your tips :)

I can see the white pixels at his paws too. D'oh, I thought I fixed that! Guess, I must've missed it. You see; there were white pixels around the whole body.. I believe I got too tired of blending that I didn't double-check. But I'll remember that next time (and maybe I might edit this one and remove the white pixels.. if it annoys me too much.. lol! I think it will.. in the end =P)

Hehe, I agree on the background too. I wasn't sure of what to have there. I thought of a forest, a castle, mystic mountains.. almost everything. But I didn't manage to make it "real enough" (especially the castle..), so that's something I have to work with. So you're absolutely right; next time I should put more effort into the background :) You can say that I just played around with the background in this one, as it was the dragon that was my "main goal" :)

Thanks again for your tips!! :hug:

The improvement you made is incredible!

The background really fits in with the textures you used on the dragon, and adds perfectly to the drawing.
Because the white pixels are now gone it looks much more finished. Green and red are nice colors to fit each other so the color you chose for the mountain is great!
I love the texture on the wing.

Maybe a new big challenge can be making clouds, though they are very hard to make (realistic anyway ; ]).

It looks awesome!
Maybe with your next drawing you can try different coloring techniques, such as cell shading!

Made a typo there, cell shading was not the right word! ;)

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like it :hug:
I thought about clouds, but after that moutain-editing I didn't want to begin on a mission like that =P Hehe, maybe next time; this one is now complete :D
Oooh, this digital art is fun! Now I have something to do while I wait for the snow to melt and I can take nice spring-photos.. lol!

Thanks again for your tips and help! :)
